Basically, the metabolic waste must be removed from the body immediately. If not removed immediately, these waste substances will accumulate in the body and cause various diseases. This process of removing waste material is known as excretion. There are several organ systems that play a role in the occurrence of this excretion.
The process of removing waste products from metabolism from the body includes the expenditure of urine, feces, breathing, and sweat. The system that regulates the release of these substances is called the excretion system.
Organs that Play a role in the Excretion System
There are a series of organs that are directly involved in the removal of this waste. Some organs that have functions in the process of excretion, namely:Kidney
Kidney is one of the main organs in the process of spending substances that are not needed by the body. The kidneys play a role in processing around 190 liters of blood to get approximately two liters of waste products and extra fluid that must be removed. This extra waste and fluid is then processed into urine which is then flowed into the bladder through the ureteric ducts. In the bladder, urine will be collected until it is finally full and must be removed. In the process outside the body, urine passes through the urinary tract. Kidney is also equipped with the ability to distinguish which substances are still useful and not useful. So, in addition to filtering out excess waste and fluid, the kidneys also return substances that the body still needs. The kidneys sort out useful chemicals, such as sodium, phosphorus, and potassium, to be returned to the body's circulation. In kidney failure, the body fails to secrete extra waste and fluid. This causes a buildup of fluids, electrolytes, and body wastes that can reach dangerous levels. In addition to decreasing the amount of urine excreted, swelling of hands and feet can occur.
Heart
Another organ that is no less important in the excretion system is the liver. This organ plays a role in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. This is where the process of converting nutrients from food into substances that will be used in metabolism. The liver is also a storage place for substances that the body needs. The liver, which is the largest organ in the human body, also functions to take toxic substances. These harmful substances will then be converted into substances that are safe for the body. In addition to turning into a safe substance, the liver will ensure that these substances are released from the body.
Skin
In the excretion system, the skin plays a role in sweating through sweat glands that are spread throughout the body. One of the goals of sweating is to maintain a stable body temperature. When the body is hot, the skin will emit and vaporize sweat. In this way the body temperature will be cooled slowly.
Colon
If all of the above organs play a role in removing fluids from the body, then the large intestine is tasked with channeling bodily waste in a more compact form, namely faeces. All waste from the whole body will be collected in the large intestine before being excreted through the anus. The end part of the large intestine also has the function of re-absorbing fluids from food digestion.
